Stunning photographs showcased as Wildlife Photographer of the Year hits HMNS

The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences is all set to exhibit 50th Wildlife Photographer of the Year honor, 30th January, featuring hundred awe-inspiring snaps, exhibiting lovely animal behavior, majestic wild landscapes as well as several other things.

In a statement, The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences said: Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the most prestigious photography event of its kind, providing a global platform that showcases the natural worlds most astonishing and challenging sights for 50 years.

Launching in 1965 and attracting 361 entries, today the competition receives almost 42,000 entries from 96 countries highlighting its enduring appeal. This years 100 award-winning images will embark on an international tour that allows them to be seen by millions of people across six continents. Continue reading »

Puffin’s Photograph emerges as winner

The Island’s Partnership teamed up with the Isles of Scilly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB Partnership), Isles of Scilly Travel and Samson Hill Cottage to organize a wonderful competition of photography for the summer of 2014.

This competition was held till the 31st of August, 2014 and was opened to anyone who explored the beauty and true charm of the Isles of Scilly, and archipelago in Great Britain. This competition had eight different categories and Steven Burbidge of Norwich bagged the award in the category of Scilly’s Nature and Wildlife for capturing a close up of the puffin.

Steven in on cloud nine after his success. He was in Tresco then, which is regarded as the second biggest island of Scilly, on a holiday with his wife and two children. Surprisingly, he had won this holiday to Tresco in a different photography competition held in Cornwall. While talking about his experience he said that though it was too early for the puffins to be visible but he still desired to find them. He had taken a boat to St. Agnes and was fortunate to have a view of the puffin. He had taken full advantage of the situation a captured a close up view of the puffin. His entry was highly appreciated by all and he obtained a total of 686 votes that had been conducted in the online poll. He also won a two night holiday for two at Samson Hill Cottage and also two return tickets for the boat tickets for the passenger ferry Scillonian III.

The coordinator, Amanda Pender states that the standard of the competition was so high that they have decided to send the winners of the other seven categories a token of appreciation for their effort and skill. She even said that some of the entries are being used for marketing purpose.
